Bruntrager has been in practice for more than 30 years. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Louis University in 1984. Mary received her law degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law in 1987.
Bruntrager began her legal career as a law clerk for Judge Carl R. Gaertner, of the Missouri Court of Appeals’ Eastern District. She then joined a Chicago, Illinois law firm practicing insurance defense in Southern Illinois. Bruntrager says that her tenure with the firm provided valuable insight into how insurance companies operate and how they evaluate claims and cases.
She joined the law firm in 1991. Bruntrager’s trial practice involves civil cases, including personal injury suits, insurance coverage disputes, public employee and contract matters and general civil litigation.
Bruntrager handles the firm’s appellate work for both civil and criminal cases in which litigation is driven by legal arguments rather than by the testimony of witnesses. “Even though a decision has been reached at the trial court level, it is not the end of the judicial process,” she notes.
Bruntrager is licensed in Missouri and Illinois. She served as the 1997-1998 president of the Women Lawyers’ Association and was appointed to the Missouri Board for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors and Landscape Architects. Bruntrager is a member of the Missouri Bar, the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, the Women Lawyers’ Association and the St. Louis County Bar Association.
